In this article the authors aimed to explore the “real-world” experience of pregnant women with prenatal yoga. So, they put together 4 focus groups of currently pregnant or postpartum participants and ask them to describe in their own words why they sought yoga and what benefits they took from it. The majority of participants sought group-class yoga to relieve

The Benefits of Practicing in a Group

I recently had an opportunity to speak with Master Yuan, our resident Shaolin Warrior Monk, who teaches Tai Chi, Kung Fu, and Qi Gong here at The Yoga Lounge. We spoke about the differences between individual practices and group practices. While individual practice is important to maintain mindfulness and balance on an ongoing basis, group practice, on the other hand, offers a very different energy and overall experience. Growing up as a monk in a temple in China, Master Yuan was surrounded by other monks who were all working to find the same energy and to master the same

Finding Ease with Tai-Chi

Today, in Tai Chi, Master Yuan taught us that it is important to relax. When we relax our minds, our bodies will also relax. If our minds are busy, our bodies will be stiff and our movement will also be stiff and uncontrolled. With focus and concentration on what we are doing in each moment, we can relax the mind and discover more fluidity and ease in everything we do.

A Tribute to Dr. Shamek Pietucha

It is with shock and sad hearts that The Yoga Lounge learned of the sudden passing of one of our own students, Dr. Shamek Pietucha. Shamek's passion for yoga brought him to India, where he passed unexpectedly just days before embarking on his journey to become a yoga teacher. Shamek was a beloved and committed student at The Yoga Lounge and several teachers attended the Celebration of His Life, hosted by his friends and family, on Sunday October 18. Guests were invited to share stories and memories of Shamek, and Nicole guided those in attendance through an emotional group

Salamba Sirsasana is Supported HeadStand

Today at the end of Kristina class everybody got on their head and remained on the king of poses, Supported HeadStand (Salamba Sirsasana), for a few breaths. The wall came very handy to deepen the pose and work more on arms strength. Kristina’s classes are on Wednesday evenings and Saturday morning. She has also a great blog where she teaches a step-by-step Vrksasana (Tree pose). Check it out at Om.Shanti.Namaste- Kristina's blog.
